Understanding Diamonds: Guide to Carat, Clarity, and Colors
Selecting a solitaire diamond ring or custom earrings can feel overwhelming. To make an informed decision, you should understand the classic 4Cs of diamond grading:
1. Carat (Weight)
Carat refers strictly to the diamond's weight, not its visual size. A 1-carat diamond weighs exactly 200 milligrams. Even tiny weight changes can impact value exponentially.
2. Clarity
Clarity measures the microscopic internal inclusions and surface blemishes. Ranging from Flawless (FL) to Included (I), we recommend VVS1 or VS2 diamonds for the perfect balance of visual brilliance and value.
3. Color
Color grading ranges from D (colorless) to Z (light yellow). Pure colorless diamonds allow more light to pass through, creating the signature fire and brilliance coveted in solitaire bands.
